"There are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit, and there are varieties of services, but the
same Lord; and there are varieties of activities, but it is the same God who activates all of them in
everyone." I Corinthians 12
Comfort Committees - The Comfort Committees are responsible for serving meals to bereaved families either in the Fellowship Hall or at home, according to the wishes of the family. The meat is bought with church funds, and the rest of the meal is furnished by the committee members. On a rotating schedule, adult Sunday school classes deliver the church flowers to shut-ins, members in the hospital, or those recuperating at home.
Family Ministries - On Wednesday evenings, adults and children join for a meal before going to their Mid-week Methodist groups. The annual ice cream supper down by the riverside was a joint summer treat for several of our churches. For over 25 years members of the Wesleyan Fellowship Class have been ministering to the Sunbridge (formerly known as Oak Crest) Nursing Home. They host a birthday party every month and help patients play bingo, giving prizes to all. Once a week they visit and talk with, listen to, and pray with residents.Missions Committee - The Missions Committee oversees our mission outreach to the local community as well as across the world. Our church supports the Red Bird Mission, the Wesley Foundation at UNA, Sifat, Restoration Ranch, and Shoals Sav-a-life, among others. Sam Waddell, David Creel, and Charles Debter also receive monetary help. Locally, through Faith in Action, we assist families with utilities, groceries, rent, and medicine. Last year, the church distributed the ingredients for Thanksgiving dinners to about 80 needy families. We also work with the Salvation Army and their Angel Tree program to provide a Christmas party for low-income children at the Church and distribute toys, gifts, clothes, and food. Administrative Board - The Administrative Board is the official administrative body of the church. These men and women meet bi-monthly to give focus to the Church's mission and provide the budget and the agenda of the church in order to complete its ministry and outreach. Our mission is to receive the grace of God, to love like Jesus loves, and to follow Him into the mission field. Volunteer Office Helpers - The volunteer office helpers include a group of people who come in each Monday morning to open and record contributions so that one of the office staff can make up the bank deposit. They are also available throughout the week to answer the phones, attach mailing labels to the Messenger, and help as needed. Board of Trustees - The Board of Trustees consists of nine people of whom at least one third are laywomen and at least one-third laymen. They are responsible for the supervision, oversight, and care of all real property owned by the church and of all equipment acquired directly by the church or any society, board, class, commission, or similar organization connected with the church. Worship Committee - This ministry of the church is responsible for all worship services. They assist in the worship setting, changing the paraments, preparing the elements for communion, and decorating the sanctuary for Easter, Christmas, and other special services. Staff/Pastor-Parish Relations - The Pastor-Parish relations committee ministers to the church staff as the staff ministers alongside the congregation. The committee sets compensation and benefit scales and works with the senior minister concerning job descriptions and their respective duties. Education Committee - The Education Committee is responsible for providing opportunities for spiritual growth. A wide variety of Sunday School classes are available for all age and interest groups. Sunday evening studies are varied and small group studies are available Monday through Thursday. United Methodist Women - The program of United Methodist Women is developed around four mission emphases: spiritual growth, social action, education and interpretation, and membership nurture and outreach. Some of their mission work includes: giving to Meals on Wheels, Threadgill School, Valentine gifts for shut-ins, preparing meals for the Wesley Foundation at UNA, and making school kits for Red Bird Mission. Tape Ministry - Volunteers from our church deliver tapes of our 11:00 services on a rotating basis to shut-ins at Brentwood, Morningside, and to private homes. Those who have been active in church, but who are presently unable to attend services regularly, look forward to weekly visits from the members and feel connected to the church through this ministry. Good Ole Boys - The Good Ole Boys are a group of men who collectively have the knowledge and skill to do about any electrical, carpentry, plumbing, heating, cooling, painting, yard work, papering, plastering, or common labor that needs to be done at the church or parsonage. Van Drivers - The Park Place van is driven by several church members on a rotating schedule. They provide transportation to and from church services for our Park Place residents. Walk to Emmaus - The Walk to Emmaus is a weekend experience of Christian spiritual renewal and formation. It is a time for singing, learning, laughing, praying, worshiping, sharing in small groups, and above all experiencing "agape" love. Many of our members have enjoyed this activity, and more are already scheduled to attend in the next year. Ladies Prayer Ministry - The Ladies Prayer Ministry recognizes that the United Methodist Church needs to return to its roots and become a praying church in order to fulfill its mission. They meet weekly in the Prayer Chapel to pray for our congregation and any person or need submitted to them. Prayer concerns can be written on cards available on the back of the pews and then placed in the offering plates. Through this ministry our church has seen much answered prayer. The Order of St. Luke - The Order of St. Luke is an interdenominational group of clergy, medical professionals, and lay people from all walks of life. A common denominator among its members is the conviction that the healing ministry of Christ belongs in the church today. One of the objectives of the Order is promoting the restoration of the practice of healing as demonstrated by Jesus Christ. Ladies of the Church - The Ladies of the Church is a group that was started in 1997 under the leadership of Billie Holcomb. These women host bridal teas for church members and children of church members. In doing so the group expresses the church's affirmation of the marriage and support of the new couple. |
